The 57th Assembly District College & Career Fair

The 57th Assembly District College & Career Fair will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights from 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Admissions representatives from 40 colleges and universities will be in attendance. Workshops will be held in English and Spanish to cover topics such as financial aid, the DREAM Act, SAT/ACT, UC/CSU admissions, writing personal statements, and community colleges.  Also, high school seniors in the 57th Assembly District are eligible to participate in the essay contest where they will be given the chance to win a $1,000 scholarship. All high school students who attend will be entered in the opportunity drawing for prizes ranging from $100 to $500. Winners must be present at the fair at the time of the scholarships and opportunity drawing prizes announcements.


The College & Career Fair is FREE to ALL parents & high school students attending schools in the 57th Assembly District.

High school seniors who attend a school within the 57th District and
are scheduled to graduate in Spring 2015 are eligible to compete.
Three winners will receive $1,000 scholarships. Contestants must be
present at the College & Career Fair to be awarded a scholarship.

Senior Bulletin #1

Welcome to Senior Year!!
This bulletin will provide important information to help you graduate and achieve your post-high school college goals.

The bulletin will be delivered to your English class.  Be sure to read it every time and to ask your counselor if you need more information!

Job One-Graduation!!
Be sure to see your counselor if you have any questions about graduation requirements: CAHSEE, CAR hours, the tech requirement, career pathway and total credits!  If you are not sure about any of these, now is the time to ask.
The window for requesting schedule changes is closed, but if you  have a concern about your courses or any other graduation issues, please come in ASAP!

Job Two-College!
If you goal is four year college, you must meet  CSU/UC "A-G" course requirements, have a competitive GPA, and the the college entrance exams by December 2!
If you did not complete these courses (examples: one year of Visual/Performing Art, Chemistry with a C or better, Math through Algebra 2, C's or better in every semester of English, ETC) you should ask you counselor right away.  Counselors will be calling Seniors in soon for "one on one" meetings, but don't wait if you need to add/change something or take an online class, come in ASAP!

SAT and/or ACT tests are also required for four year colleges
Please note: they are not required for community college and trade/tech colleges.  If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, you may be eligible for a fee waiver for these tests.  Be sure you have completed the free lunch form!! This give you discounts on AP/IB tests too!
Deadline for the October 11 SAT is September 12 (September 30 with a fee waiver)
Deadline for November 8 SAT is October 9
Deadline for the December 6 SAT( the LAST TEST for Seniors!!) is November 24.

ACT is an alternate test that Seniors should take at least once if possible.
Deadline for the October 215 ACT is September 19
Deadline for the December 13 ACT (last test for Seniors!) is November 7.

We will have college applications workshops for Seniors starting in October.
The next Senior Bulletin will include a timeline with important dates.

Scholarship for Undocumented Students

CSUSB JOINS NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANT STUDENTS

Opens September 1, 2014 - Closes October 12, 2014


TheDream US has partnered with CSUSB and other colleges in California to provide college scholarships to highly motivated DREAMers who want to get a college education but cannot afford it. TheDream US scholarships will help cover your tuition, fees, and books for an associate’s or bachelor’s degree at it's partner colleges.

To be eligible to apply for the Fall 2014 round, you must:
  • Be a first time college student applying to an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program at one of our partner colleges,
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater (or equivalent GED score), and
  • Be DACA or TPS eligible and have applied for or received DACA or TPS approval; and
  • Demonstrate significant unmet financial need.

First Day of School

The first day of school is Monday, August 18th.  1st period starts at 7:00am and 2nd period starts at 8:02am.  

If you will not be able to come on the first day of school, call us and let us know.  Students who do not show up for school will be dropped from their classes.  

If you were not able to come for Pre-registration, please come to school and take care of all your enrollment paperwork.

Pre-Registration

Pre-Registration for Freshmen is today, Thursday, August 7th.  Tomorrow is make ups.  

Come drop off your enrollment information, pick up books, ID card, PE clothes, etc.

If we can't account for you, you will be dropped from your classes!

Summer School Information

Summer school will be held at Telesis Academy of Math and Science at 2800 E Hollingworth St, West Covina, CA 91792.  The ROP Forensics class will be held at Santana High School located at 341 S. La Seda Rd, La Puente 91744.
 
Summer school begins on Monday, June 9, 2014 and ends Friday, July 13th. Students are to report to their classroom and come prepared with pencils, pens, & paper.
Students who miss the first day of summer school will be dropped from their class. 
 
Students who wish to add a class for summer school may do so on the first day of summer school at 1pm.  Counselors will be located in front of the building facing the parking lot.  This is first come, first serve.
 
Attendance during Summer school is voluntary. If a student misses more than 2 or 3 days (depending on the class), they will be dropped from their class.

Summer School Schedule:
1st period 7:30 a.m.-10:02 a.m.
4th period 10:13 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
7th period 1:15 p.m.-3:47 p.m.


Summer school schedules to current Nogales students will be handed out during lunch at the bottom of the gym steps on Wednesday, May 21st, Thursday, May 22nd, and Friday, May 23rd.  Schedules that were not picked up will be available in the Guidance Office in E2. 
Schedules for incoming 9th graders will be mailed home.

Mt SAC EOP Applications

Mt SAC is currently taking applications for their EOP program.  To apply, you must go the EOP office on the first floor of the Student Service Center (building 9b) at Mt SAC. 
 
Entrance into the program is first come, first serve.  The sooner you apply, the better chance you have of getting in.

To qualify for EOP you must:
1. Be at or below English 67/AMLA 43W or Math 51 for fall semester (placement tests)
2. Must show eligibility for the Board of governors Fee Waiver with a 0 EFC (Financial Aid tab in your student portal)
3. Have less than 40 college units with a 2.0 GPA
4. Full Time student

Seniors!

Very Important Reminder for Seniors!
All Adult School, Mt SAC and AVENTA classes must be completed and grades turned into your counselor by Friday, May 30th before 3:30pm.  CAR hours must also be turned into your counselor by the same date and time.
Get with it Seniors!  Time is running out...13 SCHOOL DAYS LEFT TILL GRADUATION WEEK!!!

Did you miss the May 1st deadline to declare your college choice?  Did you miss the application deadlines for colleges?  Did you not receive acceptance notices?  Well, it's not too late!
 
There are colleges and universities through the US that still have room and are taking late applications for the Fall.  And they have financial aid available too!
