Community Employment Day

To participate in Community Employment Day on May 15, you must first attend a one hour orientation. You must attend an Orientation to receive an Admission Ticket that allows you to sign up for job interviews at the Community Employment Day.

The orientations will be held at Nogales High School on Thursday, May 8, in the Career Center from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

This is an event open to students who are 17 years and older and any adult in the community. Students can practice their interview skills and have the opportunity to go through up to nine interviews. Many students do get hired. Employers will also give students feedback regarding their interview.

Free Prom and Graduation Dresses!

The Cinderalla Project is offereing a free beautiful dress for Prom or Graduation to high school students.

Dresses will be given on Friday, May 2nd from 3:00 to 6:00pm at A Place Called Home.

Arts In Action 2008 Scholarship

The ARTS IN ACTION Scholarship is a one-time, $1,000.00 scholarship available to university/college-bound high school seniors or current university freshmen, sophomores or juniors seeking a career path in the entertainment arts. This includes vocal or instrumental performance, theatre/acting, theatre/technical, or music business. Two scholarships will be awarded in 2008 and are applicable beginning in the Fall Semester of 2008. A local concert presenter affiliated with, and currently receiving concert services, with Live On Stage, Inc., must sponsor applicants. Applicants with financial need will receive priority consideration, but it is not a prerequisite.

REQUIRED MATERIALS TO SUBMIT:
Current name, address, phone and email (if available)
Current high school or university transcript, including GPA and course work
TWO letters of recommendation specifically tailored to “why” the candidate should be selected
ACT/SAT scores (whichever is applicable)
Indication as to financial need (if any)
University or college that the candidate has been accepted or is attending
Major of choice
1-2 page essay by candidate regarding the impact that he/she would like to make in entertainment arts
OPTIONAL MATERIALS TO SUBMIT:
Performance/professional resume (if applicable)
Any relevant CD/video recordings of applicant
Any additional information that the candidate feels would enhance his/her consideration (including professional/volunteer work)

Junior News Flash!

SAT Prep Class at Nogales!
Ms. Mollo will teach a FREE SAT prep class for the May SAT Reasoniong test. You must attend each session: Monday, 4/7, Friday 4/11, Monday, 4/14, and Friday 4/18 from 3:00 to 4:30pm in Room A-6. Sign ups start April 1st in A-6. See Ms. Mollo for more information.

Registration Meetings for next Fall are underway and will continue for the next two weeks.
Be sure to check with your counselor if your goal is a four year college. Don't forget you need ot make up D's in English and other required courses, take Chemistry or Physics, take a year of Fine Art, etc. Be sure to ask about this when registering! Sign up for Summer School if you need to make anything up (Art will be available). Your counselor will be calling you in. Don't panic; please give us time to call you in.

Orange County College Fair-National Association of College Admissions Counselors
This is a BIG FAIR with lots of opportunities to meet college admission counselors.
DATE: This SUNDAY, April 6th 1:30-4:30pm at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
The Los Angeles Fair will be at USC on Sunday 4/13 and Monday 4/14.

UCLA Extension High School Summer Programs

Starting this June, UCLA Extension will once again present academic Summer Programs for 7th - 12th grade students. These courses are offered as noncredit college preparatory programs in which course work is evaluated and recorded on transcripts.

The program allows students to:
Master an academic subject
Improve test and study skills
Learn a new language
Prepare for AP/honors courses
Develop creative writing talent
