Seniors...Still need to pass the CAHSEE?

Our school district has partnered with Mt. SAC to offer free one on one tutoring for any Senior from the Class of 2008, 2007 and 2006 who have not passed the CAHSEE.

There will be an Informational Night for parents and Seniors to learn more about our CAHSEE tutoring program on Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:30pm in K-4. There will be spanish translation. Students from Nogales High School, Rowland High School, Adult School, and Santana High School are welcome to attend.

Currently, CAHSEE tutoring is held at both Nogales High School and at Mt. SAC.
Nogales High School tutoring:
Tuesdays 3-5pm
Wednesdays 3-5pm
Fridays 3-5 pm

Mt. SAC tutoring (starting June 16th):
Thursdays 12-2pm
Fridays 9am-12pm
Saturdays 9am-12pm (Saturday tutoring starts June 28th)

Summer School Registration

Registration for Summer School is now closed. If you still need to add a class or to change a class, you will need to show up to the Manor at noon on the first day of summer school. Classes will be added on a first come first serve basis and on availablity.

New ART Management class

We will be offering a new Art Management class for the 2008-2009 school year. Art Management will teach students how to run a business involving art, ceramics, digital art, music, chorus, TV and Video broadcasting, etc. The class will also teach you how to advertise yourself and your skills. If you are interested, please see your counselor ASAP.

Seniors! A few reminders...

*Still Need Financial Help? Mrs. Sandoval will be in A2 from 12 to 3pm if you have not yet applied or have any questions. Parents are welcome. And Mt. Sac is hosting a "Cash for College" day on Saturday, May 31st from 9-2pm. You can get ANY financial aid questions answered, regardless of where you will be attending college. RSVP ASAP at (909) 594-5611 x4458.

*Rotary Club scholarship is in the "Auto Trader" magazine(appication on page 1)! It's due May 25th. Copies available in K4 and in guidance.

*Mt. SAC representative is in K4 today from noon to 2pm in K4. Come in at lunch if you need help applying, getting your placement test scores, information on summer classes or summer bridge, etc. Come see Elmer at lunch or during 6th period with teacher permission.

*If you have not yet applied to Community College...It's not too late! It's best to apply online-go to the commuity college web site to do this. You'll need to take a placement test at the college beforeyou can register for classes. Please do this ASAP! All of the ocmmunity colleges will accept applications through mid-June...so get going.

*Senior Honors Night is June 4th. Invitations are going out today. You will get one if you are being recognized. Save the date and invite your entire family.

What the Class of 2008 Will Earn?

Economics - $52,926. Career options for economics majors vary from private consulting for businesses to working for government agencies.

Concepts of Computer Systems class

Interested in earning college credit in high school. Mt. Sac will be offereing their Concepts of Computer Systems class at Nogales High School for the Fall 2008 semester. There will be no tuition costs and you must be 16 to enroll. Classes will be held after school at Nogales and you will receive dual high school and college credit.

The class will provide an understanding of computer information systems: computer hardware, software, data communications, computer ethics, computer security, systems analysis and design, Internet, problem solving, and programming using multiple computer platforms.

Open Summer School Classes

If you have not signed up for summer school, do so immediately. Time is running out. Currently, the following classes still have room: (A=first semester and B=second semester)

Geometry B
Biology B
US History B
World History B

Please see your counselor ASAP. If you are not registered in summer school by the end of the school year, you will need to come to the first day of summer school to try to add a class at noon in the Manor. Classes will then be given on a first come first serve bases as room in classes allows.

Fullfilling Our Dreams Scholarship

“Fulfilling Our Dreams” Scholarship Fund is now taking applications. SALEF established the Fulfilling Our Dreams Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to Salvadoran, Central American, and other Latino college students. Scholarships range from $500 to $2,500, and are awarded annually. SALEF places emphasis on experience in community service for social change, therefore scholarship recipients are asked to serve as a mentor to a high school student who may not otherwise have a “role model” to look up to for guidance.

Eligibility Criteria
 Applicants must be of Central American or other Latino ethnicity.
 Applicants must demonstrate financial ne ed.
 Applicants must possess a minimum 2.5 GPA.
 Applicants must demonstrate a history of community involvement.
 Applicants must be either: a) graduating High School seniors, b) current
undergraduate, graduate and professional students or c) community college students*
o *must be AB540
 Applicants must reside and study in California; or the cities of Houston, TX; or
Washington D.C.
 Applicants must be willing to give back to the community by becoming a mentor to a
high school student or completing the equivalent in community service hours.
^SALEF Scholarship is a one-time award. Former SALEF scholars are ineligible.
^^ SALEF Scholarship is open to all qualifying students regardless of immigration
status.

SAT and ACT registration

We are encouraging all Juniors to take either (or both) the SAT and the ACT. These tests are college admission requirements (you must take either one of these tests to be able to apply for college).

The SAT registration deadline for the June 7th test is on Tuesday, May 6th. To register for the SAT, visit www.collegeboard.com.

The ACT registration deadline for the June 14th test in on Friday, May 9th. To register for the ACT, visit www.act.org.

Visit your counselor with any questions regarding these tests.

CAHSEE Test Make-Ups

CAHSEE testing next week for Juniors and Seniors who have not passed it and for Sophomores who did not test in March. Testing will take place in the gym and starts at 8:00 am.
