Merry Christmas!

The Guidance Team wishes you a very merry Christmas! We will be out of the office from December 14th through January 4th.

You may have just received your 12 week progress grades. Vacation time is a great time to catch up on missed assignments. Talk to your teachers and ask them what you can make up during the break and if they are offering any extra work.

See you in 2010!

Senior Bulletin #10

Seniors-very important information for for year college applicants!

1. Sending Test Scores
Your scores need to be sent officially to each college through collegeboard.com and act.org. When you send your latest scores, the colleges get all scores. CSU's will mix and match your best Reading and Math on the SAT (CSU's do not use the writing score or the Subject test.
UC's will take your best single day score on the SAT and your best 2 subject tests.
If you tested this weekend, you can send scores up to Friday, December 12th. If you tested earlier and did not use the codes for colleges, you have to pay. There is no fee waiver for this. You should check your College Board account to see where you sent scores.

2. EOP at CSU
If you checked YES to EOP on your CSU application, you need to fill out a separate section with additional information. You will also need to send the link to your recommender.

3. Placement Tests for CSU
Most of the CSU's want students to take these placement tests ASAP! You can take the test at any CSU, but you need to sign up ASAP. Check on the campus' web site or go to www.ets.org/csu for great information.

4. Private and Out of State Colleges
It's really important that your counselor has information if you are applying to private or out of state colleges especially if the deadline is during our break. You need to research this an be sure that your assigned counselor has the Senior data form to write you a letter. Please stop by to get the data form and turn it in no later than Wednesday December 9th if your college's deadline is before January 2nd.

5. Financial Aid/Scholarships
The scholarship season will really heat up when we get back from break. We will be helping Seniors complete the FAFSA form for state and federal aid. Financial Aid night is January 13th with session in English and Spanish. You can start the procedure at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/, do not submit information until we have checked it. Watch out for fake fafsa web sites that ask for credit cards!

Freshmen Parent Night

Our second annual Freshmen Parent Night will be held this Monday, December 7th at 6:30pm in the Manor (English) and the Little Theater (Spanish). We will be going over college requirements, graduation requirements, AND!!! you will be able to pick up extra credit work from your student's 9th grade teachers to be completed over the vacation.

Great College Resource!

We've just come upon a great web site that helps students identify and apply for colleges. It also has a fantastic scholarship search. We recommend that you create a free profile with www.cappex.com. Your free profile will give you a lot of options and resources to help get you ready for college. You don't have to be a senior to sign up. The earlier you sign up, the more preparation you will receive.
