Scholarship Opportunities

First General Bank Scholarship Foundation has $5000 in scholarships for graduating high school students from low-moderate families within the Rowland Unified School District.
Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrate leadership, planning on attending college and demonstrate financial need.  Application consists of an essay (500 words): "Why should you be selected for this scholarship?", copy of transcript, resume of leadership experience and community involvement.  Apply by February 27, 2014.  See you counselor for more details.
 
Asian Pacific Community Fund-Verizon Scholarships Awards Program is offering scholarships to high school seniors.  Students must be residents of CA, OR or WA and planning to attend college in one of those states.  Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Deadline is January 31st.  For more information and to apply visit: www.apcf.org.
 
Compassion and Choices is offering the 2014 Matters of Life and Dealth Scholarship Writing Contest.  There are three scholarships for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  Must be a CA high school senior or junior, planning to pursue a degree from a accredited college in the US and be a US citizen or permanent resident.  Each applicant must write an essay on "Why should mentally competent, terminally ill adult family member have the right to choose aid in dying?  What would you say to another family member who disagrees?  All entries must be submitted by email no later than May 1, 2014.  For more information visit: www.compassionandchoicesnca.org/essay.php.

ROP Classes


Happy New Year!!
Here are two great opportunities for classes to get credit for high school or valuable experience for future careers.
 
ROP is offering their Law Enforcement Exploring Academy.  If you complete the class, you can get 10 credits toward high school graduation.  And it's a great class.
Orientation is on Saturday, January 18th from 8 am to noon.  The class starts on Saturday, January 25th.  The class is held at Bassett High School in room 313. For more information, contact Deryl Jackson at djackson@lvprop.org.

Attend a free Firefighter Preparatory Seminar to explore careers in firefighting.  this is a one day overview about what to expect from the hiring process. The seminar is from 8am to 5pm at Western University, 309 E 2nd Street, Pomona. Dates: January 11, March 29, and May 31st.
