SENIOR BULLETIN # 6

SENIOR BULLETIN # 6 – Class of 2015
Seniors, please READ!!

THE DUE DATE FOR CSU’s and UC’s is SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30 !!

THE LAST CSU/UC ONLINE WORKSHOP is MONDAY, NOV. 24.  Counselors will be in the library periods 2 through 7.  This will be your LAST CHANCE to get help from counselors!!!

PLEASE BRING: Transcript, estimated parent’s income, estimated date your parents came to US (if they came from another country), SS# (if you have one).
Please START the applications on your own, and fill out as much as you can before coming in!

The website for the CSU’s is www.csumentor.edu.
The website for UC’s is www.universityofcalifornia.admissions.edu.

TIPS ON CSU: Don’t click fee waiver or submit until we have checked everything!  OK to leave off courses on CSU ONLY that you don’t need to meet A-G reqs (IE APBio, PreCalc) Let us help you calculate GPA.(it’s 10-12 weighted for honors)Get everything done so we can check!!

TIPS ON UC: Don’t stress over parents occupation, hours you did an activity , etc! NOT IMPORTANT. UC’s do not admit by major, so do not stress too much about this! Always use undeclared as alternate! On scholarships: just check anything that is a good match – not connected to admission!

On EOP question, always say yes. In box state: low income/disadvanged school/1st generation etc. You can put family duties in the work box – if you pick up siblings, help around house etc! Don’t forget honors like RUSD Bilingual medal (4 yrs language or test),  Renaissance honors (4.0 platinum, 3.5 gold. 3.0 silver. 2.5 Noble) Noble of Month etc!

ABOVE ALL: DO NOT SUBMIT EITHER APP UNTIL WE HAVE CHECKED!! Don’t count on older brothers/sisters/aunts/friends to do this, please!

If you are in Hall’s caseload you can email your username and password to her home email.  She will check all weekend and Weds/Fri/Sat next week!!

MONDAY 11/24 - 3 to 6 is “Boot Camp” check in Library after school! Treats provided! TUESDAY 11/25 -  Hall has blocked whole day off for IB/AP English kids to check apps.

DON’T STRESS, LETS JUST GET THEM DONE TOGETHER! See your counselor if you need help!!

CSU EAP Important Information

Just a quick reminder regarding EAP "Conditional” seniors hoping to raise their Conditional status to Ready status:

Both semesters (of an approved high school course) need to be passed with a grade "C" or higher.  "C-" is not acceptable.  If a senior receives a grade "C-" or lower in either semester, they need to register and take the placement test (ELM/EPT).

April 18, 2014 is the registration deadline for May 3, 2014 placement (ELM/EPT) test.  Seniors need to test by May 3, 2014 as it is the last date that ELM/EPT will be administered for 2014 incoming freshman.  Registration information can be found at: http://www.csupomona.edu/~testcenter/tests/index.shtml

Below are links where you will find CSU approved English and math classes that satisfy "Conditional" status.
English:     http://www.csuenglishsuccess.org/conditional_esw

If you have any question at all about your status, please see your counselor ASAP!  This is only for Seniors intending to go to a CSU school in the Fall.

Harvey Mudd College Homework Hotline
  January Newsletter

New Phones, New Tutor Feature

We hope you had a wonderful holiday break and wish you a very happy new year!
The holidays were good to the Homework Hotline: Santa brought us new phones! We now have improved call quality and stability (and we've had solid quality and stability this year with more than 97 percent of calls experiencing no connection issues whatsoever).
Starting this month, our newsletter will include a new feature: Fresh Voice, Familiar Voice. Each month, we will introduce you to two of our Homework Hotline tutors. Familiar Voice will feature one of our longtime tutors and Fresh Voice will feature one of our new tutors.

Be sure to "like" us on Facebook and to follow us on Twitter. We post regular updates that include hours and useful information, as well as some helpful hints and study tips. As always, you can find helpful information on the  Homework Hotline website

Familiar Voice: Maddie Hansen '15

Major: Mathematical and computational biology
Joined the Homework Hotline: September 2011
Hometown: San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Hobbies: Dancing, tennis, poetry, sewing, board games

What do you enjoy about tutoring?
"I enjoy helping people learn the same material in different ways. Every student has their own learning style, and they might prefer different methods, so I always have to be prepared to come up with a new method or explanation. It's a puzzle! And, when the student understands the problem, I feel like I really helped, and it's so rewarding."

Why should students call the Homework Hotline?
"If you're ever stuck on a math or science problem and just can't figure it out, the Homework Hotline is the perfect resource! We can clarify the problem, give hints or even walk you through a sample solution. You no longer have to feel stuck or unable to continue. We can help you get your homework done, and hopefully you'll understand it better too!"

Fresh Voice: Hope Yu '17

Major: Chemistry
Joined the Homework Hotline: September 2013
Hometown: Beijing, China
Hobbies: Cooking, drawing and painting

What do you enjoy about tutoring?
"I feel that science is really fun. I want to help everyone understand and love science!"
Why should students call the Homework Hotline?
"We help the students by guiding them in the right direction so they can figure the problem out by themselves. It not only lets them finish their homework but also builds their learning skills for other topics in the future."
