Now that the UC and CSU application window is over, we are looking forward to the new year.
It's not too late to apply for college. Even though the UC and CSU applications are over, there are still many private/independent colleges and universities that are accepting applications. These schools are all different and have lots of great things to offer. They also give out scholarships and very good financial aid packages.
The application deadlines for these schools vary and some last until late February/early March. Check out these schools. To find out about private schools in California: https://secure.californiacolleges.edu and http://www.aiccu.edu.
In January, we will be starting Financial Aid and Community College Applications. Counselors will be helping students fill out the FAFSA and Dream Act applications. Please do not pay anyone to help you fill out your financial aid forms. And be careful of scam financial aid web sites. The web site for the FAFSA is http://www.fafsa.gov and the web site for the Dream Act application is https://dream.csac.ca.gov/.
· Financial Aid Information Night: January 14th from 6-8pm in the Little Theater (Spanish), the New Manor (English) and F8 (Dream Act)
· CASH FOR COLLEGE: February 8 from 8am-2pm, Mt SAC-Student Life Center
· FAFSA Workshops: January 22, February 19 and 28, Periods 2-7th in the Library
Scholarship season has begun. Seniors, read the Senior Bulletin to find out about scholarship opportunities. Read the "Scholarship" page of the Guidance section on our school website. You can also sign up at www.fastweb.com for more scholarship opportunities.
Our Mt SAC representative will be on campus to help with community college applications through out January and February. Mt SAC has a lot of programs and opportunities for our students whether they are looking at transferring to a 4 year college/university, a 2 year degree, a certificate program, or job training. For high school students, we recommend a community college over a vocational or trade school. Community colleges have everything that vocational/trade school offer for a fraction of the cost. Please be very careful when considering a vocational/trade school.
