Freshmen Orientation

We'd like to invite all incoming Freshmen to our annual Link Crew Freshmen Orientation.  It will be held on Friday, August 17th in the gym from 8am to noon.  On this day, you will meet other freshmen, your Link Crew leader, participate in fun activities to get you ready for the school year, tour the school, and learn the ins and outs of Nogales from upperclassmen.  Don't miss it!

College Professor Guest Speaker

Ever wonder how college will be different than high school?  We will have a Cal State LA College Professor as a guest speaker on June 4th at 3pm to talk about college life.  Join us in G-5 to hear about college classes, papers, due dates, and participation.  You can ask questions and learn about university life.

Summer School Schedules

We will be distributing summer school schedules next week during lunch time. 
May 29th: Juniors
May 30th: Sophomores
May 31st: Freshmen
Schedules will be distributed at the gym steps. Make sure you pick up your class schedules.  If you didn't get the classes you wanted or didn't sign up and want to take summer school classes, you will need to show up on the first day of Summer School. We will start adding classes at 1pm.  It's first come, first serve.
Schedules will be distributed to 8th graders at the middle schools on May 29th.

Senior Bulletin

Lots of  important reminders for Seniors !!                                                                                 
SENIOR HONORS NIGHT is next Wednesday, May 30! If you receive an invitation, you are receiving recognition. If there is a white honor society slip in your invitation, you can pay the $5 dues to get your medal in ASB up until this Weds. May 23! ASB has the list of students.
You may also be honored for other achievements. If you did not get an invitation and you want to check, please see Mrs. Hall ASAP! Seniors attending must wear cap & gown and check in by 5:45 next Weds.
AVENTA – if you are completing graduation requirements on AVENTA, keep working! We need to have the class completion in our hands by May 30 !!!!
If you still owe CAR hours, you need to complete them NOW. Check your Senior bills in ASB and the library! We want you ALL there with you at graduation.
FINAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT forms will be distributed at graduation  practice.  CSU students, be sure you have completed EPT/ELM!
If you have NOT applied to community college, do it NOW at CCCApply! (ALL community colleges in CA!)

If you filed a FAFSA, be sure to set up your web grant account at csac. Info is outside Mrs. Hall’s office.
DON’T STOP WORKING !! After today Seniors have 8 SCHOOL DAYS left!

ROP Retail Sales and Merchandising Summer Class

If you interested in getting great experience that can lead to a job and get credits toward high school graduation, check out the ROP Retail Sales and Merchandising class.  ROP will be offering the class this summer.  The class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6:00pm at Sears in the lower level section in the Puente Hills Mall.  You can register for the class on the first day on June 11th.  For more information, contact Mrs. Morales at 626-890-0877.

5th Firefighter Career Expos

The Firefighter expo will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 10am to 2pm at the CPAT Center in Orange.  The address is 626 N Exkhoff St #100, Orange, CA.  The Expo is free and encourages candidates to find out if they have what it takes to enter this rewarding profession.  For questions pelase contact the CFFJAC office at cffjac@cpf.org or call 916-648-1717.

ADELANTE MUJER CONFERENCE

WHO: Nogales Noble Girls – grades 9 - 12
WHAT: Career Conference for Young H.S. Women
Meet successful young women – over 85 workshops on different careers to choose from! Free entertainment!
WHEN: Saturday, April 21, 2012, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
TO REGISTER: See Aida Sandoval, Counselor @ lunch time.  Deadline to register is March 30th
COST: $20.00 per permission, checks payable to Pasadena Youth Center (Memo: Adelante Conference). Covers the cost of the conference, materials, and catered lunch.  
TRANSPORTATION:  FREE BUS will be provided for students that want to travel by bus.  Complete the bus permission slip and include it with your conference registration form & registration fee.  Bus leaves at 7:15 a.m., check in @ 7:00 a.m. and returns @ 4:00 p.m.

National College Fair

The National College Fair in Orange County will be held on Sunday, April 22 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Anaheim Convention Center in Hall E.  Before the fair visit www.nacacnet.org/ncfstudent to register for the fair, watch a video for a complete fair overview, and learn about different types of schools.  There will be 220 colleges attending.  We encourage high school juniors to attend.

The FAFSA deadline is this Friday, March 2nd!  You can use last year's tax information and change later.  Don't miss it!  Every Senior, technical/vocational, two and four year college bound should file a FAFSA.  Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov (not .com!) and file now.
Community College applications start mid-March.  Mt SAC is open now.  Go online and submit your application.  Mrs. Sandoval has the Bridge applications.

EPT/ELM tests are required for CSU applicants.  Check your EAP score to see if you are exempt.  SAT scores over 500 also count.  Google EPT/ELM to sign up.  Let us know if you need help.  Be sure to read everything you get from the colleges.  Check your portals often.

Mt Sac Information Workshop
Tuesday, November 15 in the Little Theater, Periods 2 and 3 (come to either one).  Important information about community college.  Teacher permission is required to attend.

UC/CSU/Common App workshop
Periods 4 to 7 Thursday and 2 through 7 Monday in G11 lab!
If you haven't finished your CSU app, be sure to come in for help!
BRING YOUR TRANSCRIPT, your SS# if you have one and parent's income (estimated)
If you've finished your CSU and are applying for UC, work on that now.
Remember-BOTH CSU AND UC APPS ARE DUE NOVEMBER 30!!
Get help/ask questions so you can work over the weekend.  You can email Mrs. Hall to check your personal statements or apps.  Her home email is saradiershall@yahoo.com

TEST FOR FOUR YEAR COLLEGES
You must complete testing by December!
The DEADLINE for the ACT was extended till this Friday, 11/11 (TOMORROW!)
There are no more fee waivers=you must pay with a credit card.  Go to act.org to sign up.

The SAT Deadline for December has passed, but the late deadline for December is Nov. 20.
Go to collegeboard.com to sign up (you need a credit card)
You do NOT need these test for community colleges, trade/tech colleges, and most art colleges!

PLANNING TO APPLY TO PRIVATE COLLEGE?
Be sure to get the common app packet for Mrs. Hall, and WATCH THE DEADLINES!! Some colleges have deadlines in December! (ie: USC for scholarships) We are running out of November!

INTERESTED IN OUT OF STATE COLLEGES?
Please see Mrs. Hall about a program next week in Baldwin Park (Nov. 16 in the evening) that discusses the issue.  Be sure to research deadlines test and course reqs, etc!

We hope to have another all day online workshop on MONDAY for CSU/UC/ Common Apps. If you haven't started working, please get going!
